In our daily lives, we think little of the air around us. urban bitLife playfully introduces this topic. A virtual character, a bitPet, lives on your mobile phone and reacts to the surrounding pollution. The current levels of NO2, particulate matter and ozone have a stronger effect on the health of your bitPet than on yours. To counter the effects of pollution in the city, you should regularly take your bitPet to parks and green spaces. Only by changing your physical position, the bitPet can regenerate. As such, there is a link between the health of the user and the bitPet.

urban bitLife made the sixth place at the app4Linz contest and won the “Smart City” prize at the Content Awards 2011. The app was also nominated for the World Summit Award 2013.
